In 2006, Days of Our Lives‘s Austin and Carrie remarried at the home of the Justice of the Peace. They had been surprised by the presence of John and Marlena, who had also gone there to elope. Austin and Carrie explained that they planned to tie the knot and then move to Switzerland that very night. Carrie apologized for not telling them in advance, explaining that they didn’t want to invite a bunch of people only to have Sami try to ruin their big day. John and Marlena ultimately decided to postpone their nuptials. “I’m sorry about the wedding plans,” he told her. “In my heart, we’re already married,” she assured him. Austin and Carrie said, “I do” — after a brief interruption from Sami — and then shared heartfelt good-byes with John and Marlena before heading overseas.

In 2012, Sean Kanan returned to General Hospital as a back-from-the-dead AJ Quartermaine. The character had been presumed dead since 2005, and to justify his return, it was explained that mom Monica (Leslie Charleson) had helped AJ fake his demise. Kanan told Soap Opera Digest that returning to the studio after a 15-year absence, “I had such a myriad of thoughts and feelings. My first day, I got thrown right in. I had eight shows my first week, did 47 scenes on one of the days, so there wasn’t a lot of time for me to contemplate anything other than what I needed to be doing. But the story is great, I’ve gotta tell you. And I love being this busy!”

In 2018, Linsey Godfrey made her Days of Our Lives debut as Sarah Horton. The actress had previously appeared on Bold and Beautiful as Caroline Spencer. At the time of her casting, Greg Vaughan (Eric) praised her to Soap Opera Digest as “sweet, adorable and perfect.” Godfrey noted to Digest, “Sarah hasn’t been on since 1991, so it’s really been a while since [viewers have] seen her. She was a teenager, last time, and really hadn’t developed as a character.” She described her new role as “kind of fiery and fun and a little bit of a mess, but she knows that. She’s fine with that. That’s how she deals with things. I find her entertaining.”

In 2017, General Hospital‘s Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard, r.) had an emotional reunion at his safehouse with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), who had been presumed dead since 2012 and has recently arrived back in Port Charles after breaking out of the Russian clinic where he had been held hostage. Though Jason’s brainwashed twin, Drew Cain, had assumed Jason’s life, Sonny took one look at his old friend and knew immediately that he was the real Jason.
