Share

Meet Ben Brown, a Software Engineer based in Dublin. Originally joining HubSpot in 2022 as a Co-Op, Ben now works on the front-end team as a Software Engineer. Read on to learn more about Ben’s role as a front-end engineer, and his favorite things about building product at HubSpot.

Tell us about your role. What do you do for HubSpot?

I’m a front-end engineer working on the Lead Scoring app, which helps marketers give scores to potential leads and prioritize high-value contacts.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I really enjoy hopping on a call with teammates and working together. Most recently, I’ve been working on a lot of reporting stuff, which is my favorite thing in the world. It has become a bit of an inside joke that I say “I love charts” a bit more than could be described as normal…

What are the top 3 things you love about your role and team?

  1. We are working on an interesting product that isn’t completely defined, so we get to be unfixed in our approach to solving problems.
  2. The people on my team are excellent collaborators. We are all really passionate about what we do.
  3. Front-end engineering work allows you to do a pretty wide variety of stuff. One day you could be implementing website content, then the next day you could be working with data, or creating visualizations and tables. It keeps things interesting.

How are you able to bring your whole self to work every day?

My team makes it really easy to be myself at work. We have a great working relationship that isn’t always entirely work-focused. We have long chats every week about pretty much anything.

What keeps you at HubSpot?

The culture here is amazing. Knowing there’s always an amazing party or a fun activity around the corner keeps things exciting. As well as that, the people who work at HubSpot are genuinely great people who make every day feel that much easier.

What energizes you at work? What drains you?

Working with others can give me a lot of energy, I love bouncing ideas around with people to come up with a novel approach to a problem.

What surprised you most about working at HubSpot?

I started out as a Co-Op, and during my internship at HubSpot, I was really surprised by how much my input and ideas were considered and respected. I had expected that, being an intern, I would be getting coffees and taking minutes in meetings, but by my second week I was already deploying changes to production!
