EON, DRB-Hicom’s auto dealership subsidiary, has teamed up with SOLS Foundation to bring clean, renewable energy to Orang Asli communities in Pahang via solar panels.
The signing ceremony – held at EON’s Glenmarie HQ today – saw EON CEO Akkbar Danial hand over 33 solar panels to SOLS Foundation, to be transported and installed at Kampung Binjai, Rompin.
“At EON, we believe that our success is closely linked to the well-being of our communities. Through initiatives such as this, we are driving positive change by creating new opportunities and improving the quality of life within deserving communities,” said Akkbar, who is also DRB-Hicom’s head of automotive distribution.
He added that through the installation of solar panels, the project would help ensure constant electricity supply for the community in Kampung Binjai, Rompin. This would in turn foster better living conditions and improve education efforts, while stimulating the local economy.
The project is part of EON’s Wheels of Hope 2.0 initiative, which aims to empower and enable activities that will help advance sustainability goals. “We hope to continue exploring new ways to support our local communities, including with SOLS Foundation. Today’s handover of the solar panels adds to our efforts in creating sustainable impact. Together, we are making a difference — one solar panel at a time,” Akkbar said.
SOLS Foundation is non-profit organisation registered in Malaysia with the mission to serve, educate and empower the bottom 40% of the population with free education, personal development, employment support and energy access for rural Orang Asli and Orang Asal indigenous communities.
