Fan favorite William Lipton will be coming home to Port Charles for the holidays, reprising the role of Elizabeth Baldwin’s firstborn, Cameron Webber. His return will kick off on December 18. TV Insider was the first to report the news.
‘Tis The Season
It was in 2018 that Lipton first joined the cast as Liz’s high school-aged son, who wound up in a romance with Josslyn and developed a tight friendship with Trina. In 2023, after Josslyn cheated on Cameron with the recently deceased Dex, the character left town to attend Stanford University on a soccer scholarship, but he visited (in the form of Lipton) earlier this year to attend the memorial service for presumed-dead Spencer Cassadine.
The actor told TV Insider that his return had been in the works for several months, and kicked off with a text message from the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, and casting director, Mark Teschner, inquiring about his availability. “Obviously, I was super stoked to receive that message,” Lipton enthused.
For Lipton, the best part of popping back in to GH was getting to reconnect with the cast members the Daytime Emmy nominee had grown close to during his years on the show. “It was so awesome to see so many incredible actors and longtime friends,” he noted. “I was able to see Eden [McCoy, Josslyn] and we had an awesome catch-up about each other’s lives and everything that’s been going on.” He also intersected with his on-screen mother, Rebecca Herbst, saying, “I was able to see Becky [and] it was just really sweet to get a really big, warm hug from Becky.”
Cameron will also cross paths with figures who were important to his Port Charles life. Lipton teased, “He will be exploring the town a little bit, maybe run into a few people that he has known throughout his time in Port Charles, but at the end of the day, [the thrust of his visit is] just him celebrating the love that he has for his family and the love that he feels from his family.”
2024 has been a banner year for Lipton’s acting career; in February, it was announced that he was headlining a new series for Amazon, titled The Runarounds. The show received a straight-to-series, eight-episode order and filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, where it will also be set. Lipton described the project as “a dream come true,” as it features not only his acting abilities, but his considerable musical skills, too. “I already got to experience some [of that combination] on General Hospital, but this show is all about the making of a band and it’s been the best,” he shared. But even with his star on the rise, his loyalty to GH is unchanged. “I’ve really enjoyed my experience there and the fact that I got to continue it, even for just a little appearance, warms my heart so much,” he smiled.
