What is Vanished: The Heather Elvis Case about?

“On December 18, 2013, twenty-year-old Heather Elvis, a cosmetology student and waitress from Horry County, South Carolina, failed to return home from a date,” a description of the series reads. “Her car was later found abandoned at a boat landing, eight miles from her apartment. Calls to her cell phone went unanswered and inquiries to both places of her employment, including The Tilted Kilt, a sports bar known for their ‘Tilted Kilt Girls’, proved to be fruitless, sparking a state-wide search for her whereabouts. What investigators discovered in their search for Heather would reveal a sordid love triangle that involved an older man named Sidney Moorer, and his wife, Tammy. As the subsequent arrest and trial of the Moorers played out, a relentless online harassment campaign was conducted to manipulate public opinion and spread misinformation about the Elvis family, forever changing the way missing persons cases are conducted.”

The series features never-before-seen interviews with the Elvis family conducted by Emmy-winning investigative journalist Summer Dashe. who co-produces the project. The case, itself, received coverage from Dateline, Investigative Discovery, and ABC’s 20/20.

Michael Bayer, who founded True Case Films, said when the project was announced in May 2024, via Deadline, “Heather’s case exemplifies how social media can often steer the narrative in the wrong direction. The accused used social media to manipulate public opinion, orchestrating an online harassment campaign against Heather’s family. They promoted conspiracy theories and spread misinformation.”

Vanished: The Heather Elvis Case will be available to stream on Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, and Google Play in February 2025 from True Case Films.
