The following blackgaze records were chosen by Dutch blackgaze band An Autumn, whose new album Ethereal is out right now. Get it here on limited-edition vinyl or here digitally.
“We came from doom/death metal mixed with black metal. There’s a strong 90’s indie influence in our sound also,” said An Autumn‘s Mchl. “So blackgaze, we don’t really know that much bands. We know shoegaze though. Here’s what comes to mind (it’s not very much blackgaze…sorry).”
Sadness – “orange love”
Sadness. You know Damián is prolific… there’s prolific and there’s Damián. But this Sadness album and this track especially… pure magic! Glorious melodies and feeling. Uplifting, rowdy, deep sadness..all sorts of emotions jammed into one song.
Amesoeurs – “La Reine Trayeuse”
Amesoeurs. One album, an EP a split. But great music. Not even sure if its blackgaze. Melancholic and sad.
Have A Nice Life – “I Don’t Love”
What an album. What a band. But this track..wow. Noisy, emotional and dark. Is it blackgaze? I don’t care. Go listen.
Pyramids & Nadja – “An Angel Was Heard to Cry Over the City of Rome”
Nadja, Pyramids… if you don’t know these bands… you are missing out. This collab is a noisy droning monster. The last track I like the most. Droning, shoegazy stuff over a blast beat.
Violet Cold – “We Met During The Revolution”
Another really prolific project. I like this droning poppy track. Have not really dived into all of his stuff.
