In 1993, Max Holden (James DePaiva) and Luna Moody (Susan Batten) tied the knot on One Life To Live. Goddess-worshipping Luna wouldn’t settle for conventional nuptials when she wed Max; their ceremony took place at the new Meditation Center at Serenity Springs Spa and was presided over by both Episcopalian Rev. Andrew Carpenter and Sabrina the High Priestess of the Daughters of the Earth. Bridesmaids Tina and Renee participated in ancient rituals and called on the spirits of Earth, Water, Fire and Air to bless the couple. After the vows, the priest and priestess proclaimed: “Those whom God and Goddess joined together, let no man or woman put asunder.”
In 1998, Michael Zaslow (pictured with Robin Strasser, Dorian, l, and Laura Koffman, Cassie), who was suffering from ALS, made his final One Life To Live appearance as David Renaldi. The actor originally appeared in the role from 1983-86 and returned to OLTL in 1997, after Guiding Light had made the decision to write him off the show as Roger Thorpe. The Daytime Emmy-winner (for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1994 for his work on GL) passed away on December 6, 1998.
In 2006, Alley Mills and Betty White made their Bold and Beautiful debuts as Stephanie’s sister and mother, Pam Douglas and Ann Douglas, respectively. Recalled Mills to Soap Opera Digest in 2018, “I learned a lot from working with Betty White. Orson [Bean, Mills’s late husband] is a good friend of hers, because they did all those game shows together back in the day. She’s just the sweetest and most genuine f—ing person, and I can say that because she loves to throw the f-bomb all the time. Well, for our first 10 days, which was originally all I was going to do, they gave her pages and pages of dialogue and she couldn’t remember all of it, so I memorized her part, too, and would throw lines at her so we would keep going, and she didn’t care. I learned from her that’s a really good way to be on a soap so you don’t freak out if you can’t remember a long speech. They’ll just work around you, so chill.”
In 2008, All My Children‘s Annie Novak (Melissa Claire Egan) was arrested after stabbing Erica Kane at a ConFusion fundraiser to benefit victims of Pine Valley’s recent hurricane. Annie, who had had a psychotic break, showed up wearing the dress she wore to her wedding to Ryan Lavery and in her delusional state, thought it was her wedding day. She wound up stabbing Erica, but told Ryan she wouldn’t tell him who she had injured until he recited his wedding vows! Ryan went along with it on advice from Jesse Hubbbard. Once Ryan managed to get the knife away from her, Jesse quickly handcuffed her and led her out of the club.
In 2017, Victoria Konefal (pictured with Olivia Rose Keegan as Claire Brady) debuted as Ciara Brady on Days of Our Lives. In her entrance interview with Soap Opera Digest, Konefal shared, “I had been auditioning for about two months. My agent got me an audition, and Marnie Saitta, the casting director, brought me in about four or five times before I went in for testing. Then I tested and then I tested again. So, after two months of that, I finally got the role.” She acted opposite Keegan and Lucas Adams (Tripp) in her audition scenes. “I never tested for anything before, so it was really overwhelming being on the set and seeing all of the amazing talent walking around and doing their thing. It was pretty nerve-wracking, but I felt really great and confident about it once it was all over. And here I am!”
