Reasons to Book a Honeymoon in Sri Lanka

Share

There are countless reasons to choose a honeymoon in Sri Lanka. The most compelling thing is that it offers everything you can want in one destination.

Idyllic Sri Lankan beaches along the Indian Ocean with white sand, coconut palms, and crystal-clear waters, coupled with ancient ruins and temples.

You’ll find majestic mountains, terraced tea fields, and wetlands perfect for wildlife safaris. Spot monkeys, elephants, sloth bears, and leopards, not to mention flamingos and herons—a paradise for safari and birdwatching enthusiasts.

Sri Lanka’s diverse cities add to its charm. Explore bustling Colombo, the historic and colonial city of Galle, quaint fishing villages like Negombo, or the spiritual capital, Kandy. Each city reveals a different facet of this incredible country.

You can experience a rich tapestry of cities, nature, culture, temples, beaches, and ancient ruins in a compact area. This is why Sri Lanka makes the perfect honeymoon destination—it has everything, so you won’t miss out on anything.

Located in the tropics, Sri Lanka enjoys pleasant temperatures year-round. The dry season brings minimal rain, and the water temperature is ideal for swimming.

Yes, the climate is humid, making the heat feel a bit sticky, but isn’t it better to be warm than cold on your honeymoon? You’ll look forward to returning to your room, ready to cool off and unwind together.

What to Pack for a Honeymoon in Sri Lanka?

When packing for your honeymoon in Sri Lanka, it’s a good idea to include mosquito repellent, especially if you’ll be near water or the coast. While there are some mosquitoes, a good repellent will keep them at bay, allowing you to fully enjoy your time without any discomfort.

On the other hand, it is also a country with a lot of sun. What does this mean? We recommend you to bring a high protection sunscreen and use it regularly. Also bring a cap and sunglasses. This way you can better enjoy your trip without the sun being a problem.
Related to the heat is the need to wear thick socks. In Sri Lankan temples and ruins like Polonnaruwa, you cannot go with shoes. You will have to leave them at the entrance and go barefoot or with socks.

If you don’t wear socks, your feet will get scorched and you may even cut yourself on a pebble on the path. The sun hits the stones and flagstones and it can be quite uncomfortable. However, if you wear socks you will have no problem.

Finally, remember also that in the temples it is not allowed to wear shorts or miniskirts. For this, it is best to have a sarong, the typical Sri Lankan sarong. You can wear it when entering the temples. You will also have to cover your shoulders, so cotton or linen shirts are a good idea to have something cool but that meets the required decorum.
