Become a Qualified Assessor with Aim Higher Training

Share

As the education and training landscape continues to evolve, the demand for skilled assessors has never been higher. One individual who has embraced this opportunity is one of our students, Olufunke Fasoyiro, a qualified teacher with extensive experience across secondary education.

Funke recently shared her motivations for pursuing an assessor qualification and her experience studying with Aim Higher Training.

A Passion for Assessment

With a background in supporting trainee teachers, Olufunke was drawn to the growth potential of the assessment field. “Assessment seems like a growth area within which my experience of supporting trainee teachers would be relevant,” she explains.

Choosing to Study with Aim Higher Training

When selecting a training provider, Olufunke was impressed by Aim Higher Training’s supportive approach. “They were incredibly supportive from the beginning,” she recalls. “I was provided with lots of information, and all my questions were answered. The approach to training was also helpful and made it easy for an intending learner to make up their mind.”

A Thorough and Rewarding Learning Experience

Olufunke ‘s expectations were met and exceeded throughout her studies. “The induction was very thorough, and I knew what was expected of me at each stage,” she says. “The feedback from the written work was objective and helped me to develop my understanding of the work assessors do.”

She particularly appreciated the guidance and support the Aim Higher Training team provided. “I got a lot of support to complete my mapping document and my portfolio, which made the task of completing the necessary paperwork for my assessor award easier,” Olufunke explains. “I was also coached on getting a foot into the assessment industry, targeting the right sector where my background as a qualified teacher with experience in supporting trainee teachers would uniquely advantage me as a qualified assessor.”

Overcoming Challenges and Developing Key Skills

While Olufunke initially struggled to assemble her portfolio, the Aim Higher Training team provided valuable assistance. “Aim Higher shared an exemplar template to model my mapping document on, and my assessor helped me to understand how to start putting my documents together meaningfully,” she shares.

Olufunke has noticed significant improvements in her planning, organising, communicating, and multitasking abilities throughout the process. “My planning, organising, communicating, and multitasking have been enhanced, especially as a result of full-time work, personal commitments, and delivering to multiple deadlines,” she says.

Bright Prospects Ahead

With her assessor qualification in hand, Olufunke sees a clear path forward. “I hope to work as a freelance assessor and start my own training company,” she shares. “I am also a better organised worker, and I am better at journaling, using my to-do list, and following my routines.”

For others considering a similar path, Olufunke has a resounding recommendation: “Yes, indeed, as teachers have many transferable skills that are germane to what assessors do.”

Aim Higher Training’s tailored assessor training programmes have been instrumental in Olufunke ‘s journey, and she is excited to see what the future holds. “I got along well with students and colleagues,” she reflects. “I can approach them to offer support, understand their needs and provide it to them.”
