- McLaren’s Lando Norris won the 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix
- McLaren leads the Constructors’ Champion
- Reigning world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing leads the Drivers’ Championship
McLaren’s Lando Norris converted a pole position into victory on Sunday at a mostly uneventful 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
He finished 20 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who in turn had a 20-second gap over McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in third place.
Norris got the better start when the lights turned green at the Marina Bay Circuit, and from there only built the gap up, resulting in him spending most of the race alone. There was a close brush with a wall midway through the race, but Norris managed to stay in control.
Verstappen and Piastri were also mostly on their own during the race, though Piastri made some brilliant moves early on to move from fifth up to third and finish ahead of Mercedes-Benz AMG’s George Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Another highlight was Williams’ Franco Colapinto who added to his impressive drives in the previous rounds in Italy and Azerbaijan. After starting 12th on the grid, the rookie driver made an aggressive move up the inside of the first corner to pass three cars, whose drivers later complained they were forced to move wide to avoid a collision. Colapinto finished in 11th after failing to pass Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.
In what was possibly his final F1 race, RB’s Daniel Ricciardo changing to a set of soft tires late in the race grabbed the bonus point for the fastest lap from Norris, doing a small part toward helping the campaign of current points leader Verstappen. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, there are rumors Ricciardo, who was the last of the finishers in Singapore, will be replaced by Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season.
Following the weekend’s action, Verstappen still leads the 2024 Drivers’ Championship with 331 points. Norris is second with 279 points and Leclerc is third with 245 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads with 516 points. Red Bull is second with 475 points and Ferrari is third with 441 points.
The next race on the calendar is the United States Grand Prix on Oct. 20.
