We love to hate monopolies, but what if breaking up Google is fixing the wrong problem?

Everyone is hurling fireballs at Google.

  • Fireballs over privacy concerns.
  • Fireballs over biased search results.
  • Fireballs over their AI ethics controversies.

I get these.

But the latest fireball is simply that Google is… too good at what it does.

The Department of Justice says Google’s huge influence in search and browsers is illegal and hurts competition. They want to break Google up, starting with its Chrome browser and maybe even its Android business.

Honestly. That’s a horrible idea.

Google’s monopoly isn’t the problem — we’re already watching it crumble.

Google’s business isn’t just about search — it’s about ads. In fact, 80% of Google’s revenue — more than $200 billion a year — comes from advertising, most of it tied directly to its search engine. Every time you click on a paid result or see an ad at the top of your search, you’re funding Google’s empire.
