Over 50% of Honda Accord sales are now hybrids

Hybrids now account for over 50% of U.S. Honda Accord sales, the automaker said Monday while detailing pricing for the 2025 Accord.

The Accord introduced Honda’s two-motor hybrid system for the 2014 model year, and was offered as a hybrid intermittently before that, but Honda got more serious about growing hybrid sales with the mid-size sedan’s most recent redesign. This saw hybrid grades outnumber non-hybrid ones for the first time. For 2025, Honda offers four Accord hybrid trims and only two non-hybrids, one of which is new this year.

Honda said it sold 111,264 Accords through August, making it the automaker’s third-highest seller behind the CR-V and Civic. The CR-V has also been available with the same two-motor powertrain used in the Accord for some time, while the Civic adds it as part of a 2025-model-year refresh. Honda expects hybrids to eventually make up 40% of Civic sales.

The automaker also recently confirmed that it’s planning for production of hybrids at a new EV production hub at its Marysville, Ohio, plant that’s scheduled to open in 2025. The new hub, which also includes a joint-venture battery plant with LG, will be able to assemble hybrids or EVs on the same lines, according to Honda. That will provide the flexibility Honda believes it needs to address limits in customer demand for EVs.

Even as Honda targets 2 million EV sales by the end of the decade, it’s still committed to hybrids. The automaker plans to leverage EV hardware for a new hybrid all-wheel drive system, and aims to improve the business structure of its hybrids between 2026 and 2030.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Toyota Camry is now available only with hybrid powertrains. So 100% of sales of the Accord’s main rival will be hybrids going forward.
